I’m playing the Songwriter Showcase at Homegrown on Saturday (although I’m not on the poster below !) around 7pm:
It has just come to my attention that the very college of fine art where I came to live for a while, in an untended, unheated studio, accessed via a door left ajar by an accomplice, that college, namely the Hochschule für bildende Künste Hamburg, was the one that Stu Sutcliffe attended in 1962.
He must have spent time in that very same studio, during mutual student studio visits and critiques. Wish I’d know that when I was living there and gigging in Hamburg!
In the picture on the left, you can see the hallway where, because of its great acoustics, I wrote the still-in-the-setlist-today song Great to Give about 12 years ago. Stu is on the left of the picture with those other guys…
I hope they sing “Always look on the Bright Side of life.”
Bruce Cockburn (!) covered that.
with my old pal Mike Martyn and also Great Danes.
Check out the music streaming by the other two acts on the bill too. Six dollars at the door.
